Rebecca A. Tavangar, MA, LPC, CCTP
Contemplative Psychotherapist
The most common reasons for therapy
can be alleviated with Contemplative Psychotherapy
1Anxiety
Anxiety can stem from unresolved trauma, or a restless mind- often from not being able to be what we want to be – which in turn, comes from not knowing who we really are.
2Depression
Almost always, depression results from genetic, biochemical, environmental, or psychological factors. Do you understand yours'?
3Unresolved Trauma
Trauma is in the nervous system and body, and not in the event. It is more about our response to the event and whether we have processed it both psychologically and physically.
What is Contemplative Psychotherapy?
It is a holistic approach
that values the mind-body connection,
by supporting the
restoration of balance in the body,
the quieting and focusing of the mind,
and the connection to a realization of soul or spirit,
the aspect of our being that seeks
goodness, truth, and beauty.
Cognitive behavioral therapy
or talk therapy
is helpful, but it is limited
to the aspects
of the mind.
A contemplative approach
invites awareness to naturally
arise within you—
an alertness to an intelligence
that is greater than
thought alone.
Contemplative practices can include
experiences such as:
somatic experiencing
mindful breathing
sound meditations
guided imagery
passage meditation
introspective journaling
and
centering in nature.

SERVICES PROVIDED
People often enter therapy because they are struggling with difficult emotional circumstances and relationships. Many times the underlying causes of psychological pain are rooted in unresolved trauma. Sharing the narrative that describes the mental framework of your painful experience is where therapy begins with the cognitive behavioral approach-- which aims at reframing the mental picture of your experience while identifying ineffective thoughts and the learning of new more effective ones.
My approach goes beyond the mind, and values the healing that comes from a mind-body approach which includes the sensibilities of interoception, somatic experiencing and contemplative practice.
Some people come in for short-term help to develop tools & strategies to get them through a particularly painful time. Some come to learn contemplative practices that will aid them in navigating life. Others seek a more intensive longer-term approach, which involves a more in-depth acquaintance of one's interior (spiritual) self and a process of learning how to undo the patterns of reactive thinking.
Regardless of what you are struggling with, you can expect a safe, respectful, comfortable and supportive atmosphere that facilitates healing, problem solving, growth and insight.

FEES AND PAYMENT
If you are interested in setting up an appointment, please give me a call to discuss my current consultation fee. If I cannot accommodate your financial situation, I will be happy to provide you with an appropriate referral.
If you are seeking intensive treatment (2 or more times per week) a reduced fee may be possible based on income and ability to pay.
I have limited availability for sliding scale treatment. I typically reserve these spots for students or current patients undergoing financial hardship. I encourage you to discuss finances if they are a concern.
For the initial consultation, payment is due at the time of service. If we decide to work on an ongoing basis, payment can be made at the time of each appointment. I provide invoices at the end of every month, which can be used for medical savings accounts.CANCELLATION POLICY
Consistency is one of the cornerstones of therapy and is essential for effective treatment. In addition to the benefits of regular sessions, appointment scheduling involves the reservation of time that is specifically held for you. If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session. Exceptions need to be discussed in person and in advance. I will be happy to explain the details of my reschedule and make-up policy during the initial consultation.
